Maybach’s 508-Ft Members-Only Superyacht Is Pure Excess
The proposal known as Beyond Horizons introduces the Maybach Ocean Club as a members’ club hosted at sea, centered on a custom-built 508 ft Superyacht conceived not as a retreat but as a floating enclave. Membership replaces ownership, access replaces possession, and the vessel functions as a closed system designed for repeat proximity rather than novelty. The yacht accommodates up to 72 guests across 30 evenly sized residential-style suites of 242 sq ft, finished with rose-gold accents referencing Mercedes-Maybach interiors, alongside six forward guest cabins reserved for short-term use. With approximately 50,000 sq ft of cascading deck space, layered teak terraces and infinity pools form a stern beach club, while the bow is anchored by the Maybach signet, a deliberate marker of brand lineage and intent.
Naval architecture is led by Dölker + Voges, with design direction from Mercedes-Benz Design under Gorden Wagener, aligning the project with the automotive studio’s luxury language rather than traditional yachting cues. A shadow vessel extends range and capacity, carrying tenders and equipment, reinforcing the yacht’s role as a shared asset rather than a standalone object. Beyond Horizons was first presented publicly in Fort Lauderdale in November 2025 through a scale model and renders, with no launch date announced at the time. Oversight comes from Michael Hehn, co-founder and managing director of the Maybach Ocean Club, while community architecture and operational logic are shaped with marine consultancy Splendid Sea and developer Matthias Bosse.
Operationally, Beyond Horizons is planned to follow Mediterranean summers and Caribbean winters, with cultural programming such as concerts and exhibitions moving with the itinerary. Wellness facilities, spa spaces, and helicopter transfers are integrated but intentionally understated. Admission is selective, requiring interviews and letters of recommendation, with rumored terms indicating a $4,000,000 buy-in, six-figure annual fees, and approximately four weeks at sea per year, excluding food, beverages, and optional activities. Around 300 members are expected, predominantly American with a European remainder. A prior trial of the membership model aboard Lady Moura produced two new companies, validating the concept. The maiden voyage is planned for 2029, positioning the ocean not as escape, but as a controlled, finite environment where the defining question is who is on board.
