Where History Meets Modern Zurich
Some addresses explain a city before the door is opened. Mandarin Oriental Savoy, Zurich sits on Paradeplatz, at the point where Zurich’s financial district meets Bahnhofstrasse and the historic centre. The setting places the hotel among the institutions, maisons and private worlds that define the city’s contemporary luxury landscape. Housed in a building with roots stretching back to 1838, the property carries its history without turning it into spectacle. Its position on Paradeplatz remains the more immediate statement – central, established and quietly consequential.
The hotel’s contemporary identity sits against that history rather than replacing it. Parisian designer Tristan Auer has reworked the interiors across 80 rooms and suites, including 36 suites, using Zurich-inspired references, warm tones and modern materials. The scale remains controlled. The Mandarin Lounge is organised around an open fireplace, while 1838 occupies the rooftop, continuing the building’s long association with elevated views across the city and lake. The original hotel had one of the world’s early rooftop bars, making the current 1838 less an addition than a continuation of the address’s architectural memory.
The same restraint carries into the dining spaces. ORSINI serves Italian cuisine and holds one Michelin star, with its culinary direction led by Chef Dario Moresco and consultant Chef Antonio Guida. Savoy Brasserie & Bar operates throughout the day, while 1838 combines panoramic views with Asian-inspired dishes and cocktails. The hotel’s significance, however, is ultimately less about the number of rooms or venues than about its position. Paradeplatz places it among Zurich’s financial institutions, Bahnhofstrasse supplies the city’s luxury retail circuit, and the lake remains close enough to enter the rhythm of the address on foot. For a city where discretion is part of the language of status, that geography is the more telling detail.
