The One-Off Porsche 911 GT2 RS
The Porsche Flachbau RS began with a 2018 911 GT2 RS Weissach Package and evolved into something far rarer – a single factory one-off developed through Porsche’s Sonderwunsch programme. Almost three years of work brought together Sonderwunsch, Style Porsche, Weissach development engineers, Porsche Motorsport and Manthey. The brief called for a more extreme interpretation of the GT2 RS, a Flachbau silhouette and a rear wing drawing from the 911 GT3 R Rennsport. The result is a road-legal collector car finished in Grand Prix White, with its powertrain deliberately left unchanged.
The design reaches back to two defining Porsche references. The first is the 1980s Flachbau conversion for the 911 Turbo Type 930, whose reshaped front wings and pop-up headlights drew from the Porsche 935. The second is the 935/78 “Moby Dick”, whose elongated proportions became one of the most recognisable forms in Porsche racing history. Grant Larson, who also led the design of Porsche’s modern 935 in 2018, shaped the new project around that lineage. Its most distinctive feature is the front end, where flatter wings, exposed carbon and three exceptionally slim LED units create a deliberately low, technical profile. The Grand Prix White paint was developed specifically for the car, using a historic 911 from Porsche’s collection as its reference.
The engineering is as considered as the silhouette. The revised front wings incorporate louvres to vent the wheel arches, while the redesigned bumper and Manthey flaps form part of the aerodynamic package. At the rear, the S-shaped wing supports sit approximately five centimetres higher than those of the GT3 R Rennsport, with three manually fixed positions. At 340 km/h in High Downforce configuration, the car produces 554 kilograms of rear-axle downforce. Weight was reduced by 31.6 kilograms through extensive interior and equipment changes, including the removal of the Porsche Communication Management system, audio components, sound insulation and sections of flooring. Carbon bucket seats carry Flachbau RS embroidery, while a gold-coloured plaque identifies the car as “Factory One-Off 2026 | Flachbau RS.” Extensive digital and physical validation followed, including wind-tunnel testing, Nürburgring running and endurance work at Weissach. The result is not a revival of the Flachbau, but a contemporary interpretation of one of Porsche’s most distinctive design languages.
