Louis Vuitton x De Bethune LVDB-03 Louis Varius Project Redefines High Watchmaking

Louis Vuitton’s high watchmaking program deepens its collaboration with De Bethune through the LVDB-03 Louis Varius, a project guided by Jean Arnault and Denis Flageollet that merges independent craftsmanship with luxury heritage. The creation revolves around two interconnected pieces, a GMT wristwatch and the Sympathique clock, both assembled entirely within De Bethune’s workshops to preserve technical integrity and artistic cohesion. The wristwatch introduces the Tambour Taiko case in signature heat-blued titanium, enhanced with platinum lugs, a sculpted crown, and an engraved bezel spelling Louis Vuitton, while the caseback features a discreet personal engraving that reflects the human story behind the collaboration.

At its core, the DB2507LV calibre integrates a GMT complication with the historic Sympathique mechanism, enabling interaction between watch and clock when docked, allowing automatic winding and synchronization. Twin self-regulating barrels deliver a five-day power reserve, ensuring both stability and autonomy. The dial reflects De Bethune’s celestial design language, with hand-set white-gold pins forming a starry sky, complemented by delicate gold leaf outlining a bespoke Louis Vuitton constellation. A spherical day-night indicator rotates twice every twenty-four hours, crafted in rose gold and flame-blued steel, combining poetic aesthetics with technical precision in a limited edition of twelve pieces.

The Sympathique Louis Varius clock extends the concept into the realm of marine chronometers, featuring a titanium base with flame-blued meteorite marquetry and a versatile tilt-lock system. Its manually wound movement consists of hundreds of components, beating at eighteen thousand vibrations per hour and offering an eleven-day power reserve regulated by a remontoir d’égalité. Beneath a rose-gold dome engraved with the Hercules constellation lies the docking system, while surrounding engraved rings display intricate landscapes by François Schuiten, hand-finished using traditional techniques. Both timepieces are presented in bespoke trunks crafted at the historic Asnières workshops, completing a unified vision that blends narrative, innovation, and exceptional craftsmanship.
